Part three in a series to determine the best gyro around OSU's campus...

I am always up to try new things. And the newest entry on my GYRO GAUNTLET was a new thing. The Pita Pit (+ 2 points for alliteration) was next on my short list of gyro spots around campus, and so I headed out to order their gyro one day after taking an exam.

But let me tell you, exams do not exactly put me into the most welcoming mood. And as I stumbled out of my economics exam I was under a strange sense of failure (a common sentiment post-exam) and so belligerently ignored traffic signals and pedestrian laws in a mad dash across High Street.

For, on the other side of my exam, I knew that a happy gyro was somehow waiting for me.

I was pretty much c-o-r-r-e-c-t.

Pita Pit is a campus staple, if only because I see people eating it all of the time. Now, popularity is not always a clear indicator of quality, (for example: people really liked 98 Degrees) and so I hesitantly assumed good things while walking into the Pita Pit.

I ordered a gyro, and was actually able to dictate what went onto my pita to the man behind the counter. But: problem. No French fries. Their combo included chips and (get this) rang up at over $7! This was an issue for me because I am as broke as a staircase knob.

So, many dollars into this meal (that lacked French fries) I was expecting wonderful things from the gyro that came packed in a pita. Thus, I put the gyro into my backpack and trekked back to my house where I consumed the bugger while studying for other exams.

And, I’m going to be honest with you, I was not particularly impressed. It was the most expensive gyro I’ve had so far, the least authentic, and lacked fries. But, the problem with the GYRO GAUNTLET is that failures are to be expected. And Pita Pit was, if anything, mostly a failure for me.

Despite being particularly unassuming, the gyro did give me enough energy to get almost fifteen (15!) minutes of focused studying before jumping on facebook to do who-knows-what (…check relationship statuses of awkward couples…).

Part of the problem with trying to be friendly to things I am eating during exam week is that exams are hard (!) and I usually spend most of my time stressing out about how little I am studying while looking for reasons not to study.

For example: right now I am in near panic about a presentation and paper due this Tuesday. Buuuut…. It’s a beautiful Sunday afternoon, so I will probably go on a bicycle ride on the bike path alongside the Olentangy…

I have now reviewed three gyro places around OSU’s campus: Ali Baba’s, Falafel and Gyro House, and now Pita Pit!

But, I'm not tired of gyros yet....So, look out for next week’s edition of the GYRO GAUNTLET!
