I'm something of a gastronomical geek, a foodie if you will.  So, in no particular order, I've decided to write about some of my favorite places in Columbus.

Within a few weeks of moving to Columbus freshman year, I realized that it is a great city.  There is a great mix of restaurants, bars, culture, entertainment, and more.  As a senior with no idea where I will be living a year from now, I have recently been trying to experience as much of Columbus as possible.  From parks to pubs, nothing is off limits or not worth trying for me.  With so much to do and so many great places to eat, I only wish I had this mindset years ago.

Today I introduced a friend to Schmidt's Sausage Haus und Restaurant in GermanVillage.  It wasn’t the first time I’d been to Schmidt’s, but it is a place I’ve recently discovered.  The restaurant has been featured on the TV show “Man vs. Food,” and it’s famous for huge cream puffs and the Bahama Mama bratwurst.  The GermanVillage neighborhood is a great post-dinner route to walk off some of the sluggishness from stuffing yourself at Schmidt’s buffet or with one of their German specialties.

So if you’re looking for a famous, cheap, Columbus restaurant with some character (think German décor and Bavarian costumes) and local atmosphere, Schmidt’s is the place to be.  If you’re not stuffing yourself at the buffet, try the sauerbraten or sausage sampler.  I guarantee you won’t be disappointed (or hungry).  …and make sure to save room for a cream puff.
