EXTREME UPDATE! I don’t know where 90% of my summer went!
I don’t know where 90% of my summer went! I’ve been here and there and everywhere in between but mostly sleeping and over-sleeping but somehow still wanting to nap away the day and the whole summer!
By some sort of cosmic miracle, a summer job fell into my lap one day while laying out on the oval. An old manager of mine at Mirror Lake called a friend I was with at the time asking if she wanted to work at the new cafes that are opening in the Science and Engineering Library and the brand new Thompson Library. My unfortunate friend, however, is graduating and therefore not able to work in the fall, which was the whole idea of hiring people in the summer.
I lucked out on the other hand. I started working at the Terra Byte Café in the SEL almost immediately and now, despite previously knowing nothing about coffee, can whip you up a frozen signature mocha or any other of our fine selections like nobody’s business.
Other than getting a job though, the summer has kind of crawled. I just got back from Chicago for Lollapalooza, which blew my mind. And my friends and I decided last minute to trip it to Atlanta for a two-day electronica dancefest extraordinaire (STS9, Bassnectar, Ghostland Observatory, etc.), which will definitely be interesting.
I haven’t laid out since I was quoted in U-Weekly about laying out for 3 hours a day. Coincidentally that was seconds before I decided to kiss Mirror Lake goodbye forever and begin a new era under Campus Dining in the world of coffee and pre-made sandwiches over at Terra Byte. Now I spend all my time either there or in bed.
Not taking classes hasn’t necessarily made the summer go faster or slower I don’t think...And it has allowed me to go back and forth between here and home a lot more than I would have other wise. However, thinking about all the people who are getting done with summer quarter officially this week is kind of overwhelming.
Summer is going preeeettttyyyyy quickly in retrospect. Granted, we still have over a month until school starts, but things are starting to creep up and I feel like I really have not been taking advantage of all my summer freedom.
Things that are fast-approaching and looming include: moving into our house on Sept. 1st, getting out of my jury summons in Chicago, Biology 113, paying bills…I am so poor from spending literally all my money on concerts and festivals that I got my first credit card today.
Yes, I might be growing up. But oh I don’t do so well with temptation…
On the other hand, things that are fast-approaching and super exciting and awesome include: payday (always exciting), good times in Atlanta, moving into our house, school sort of (new places, new faces!), the Flaming Lips in September, DJ Tiesto, STS9, and Andrew Bird all in one week in October, going to Chicago to see Bassnectar in November. I am going to be dancing my pants off non-stop this fall. Let’s hope I can engage my superego and get on top of my school and work life as much as I need to as well.
At least hip-hop dance and tumbling will be fun. My primate class, Anthro 304, will be fun too.
Whatever. I apologize for the lack of words recently; I’ve been in a sort of bored summer coma. Either that or I’ve been super super busy and all over the place. Never in between. Until I just sat down this afternoon and realized I haven’t written in FOREVER.
Honestly though, besides festivals, this summer’s been kind of boring. Maybe I should start trying harder to leave my living room. If only I had money. Oh well. At least it’s not snowing.
