Keep a look-out for an entry few weeks from now about whether these classes meet my expectations!
This quarter, I'm taking the following classes:
Chem H251 - Organic Chemistry Honors
Physics 111 - General Physics: Mechanics and Heat
PubHlth 400 - Introduction to Public Health
BMS320.01 - Honors Introduction to Biomedical Research
Spanish 401 - Advanced Grammar
Chinese 211.51 - Individualized Track
What I'm expecting:
O-Chem - Difficult, potentially butt-kicking; Dr. Coleman, the professor, is supposed to be one of the best in the chemistry department, but also one of the toughest. I've already read through three chapters of the textbook, which takes me through our first midterm--the material doesn't seem too bad, but we'll see what happens.
Physics - Hopefully easy! I'm not taking Physics131 or H131, which are the calculus-based and more difficult tracks--I just need enough to get me through the DAT. I get flak for this from my more mathematically inclined friends, but I've never been aprticularly interested in math or physics.
Public Health - Lots of reading; one of the girls in my major took this. But I think the subject matter will be interesting--potentially even interesting enough to make me want to change my career aspirations! Another girl in my major is taking it with me, and she happens to be awesome so I'm looking forward to at the very least suffering through it with her. ;-)
BMS - Not too bad, hopefully--so far the BMS classes themselves haven't had terrible workloads but I have actually learned useful information from them--more on this in another entry probably. Looking forward to the weekly time with my classmates, albeit at 9:30 in the morning, which is on the early side for college...:D
Spanish - Difficult. I'm afraid I'll be rusty in Spanish from the quarter off--I practiced speaking and I've been reading (very very slowly) The House on Mango Street in Spanish. But the teacher seems really nice--RateMyProfessor says he's great and is a good teacher especially given the difficulty of the material. My grammar sucks so I hope this class will improve it.
Chinese - I think I.I. Chinese (Individualized Instruction) that's reading/writing only--which means I read assignments at home and then read them to an instructor, and also write some essays and summaries. It's been really easy so far and I don't see how it will be hard this quarter, especially since I'm only taking 2 credit hours of it. (We're allowed to take between 1 and 5 credit hours per quarter--more CRs means more work)
Let's see if these classes meet my expectations!
