The first day of classes has come and gone, and just like the wind, it was a breeze.

After finally registering for all the classes I planned on attending, figuring out my alarm and coding my BuckiD for the third time (so that I could enter the building,) I was ready for classes. Presumably, a pretty light day already, I was pleasantly surprised to have an all syllabus-review day. It’s a great way to ease into the quarter, and gets me particularly excited about my classes. Who’d of thought that an 8:45 a.m. yoga class could be filled with so much intellectually, emotionally and critically stimulating material.

I always find it interesting to hear the perspective of both instructors and students on the first day of classes. Teachers have these grand ideas about what will be imparted onto us as students, and everyone readily takes note. In and out of consciousness, I eagerly record assignments into my planner, as a stream of uninterrupted thoughts pour from my communication professor. It’s quite impressive, like a directed monologue with the occasional pause for questions (for dramatic effect,) though they are seldom asked.

I only have three classes on Wednesdays: yoga, modern dance technique and strategic communication principles. Because of this I spent most of my day in Sullivant Hall, which houses the dance department. And it felt like home. We had our departmental meeting today, so my time there was extended. I love it though. Most of friends are dance majors, so it’s great to have everyone in the same room, even though another stream of information swooshes from rock to rock (aka prof to prof.) It lasted more than an hour, and I was nearly late for my next class. I snuck in just before the syllabus was given. Oh, first impressions.

I call this day a success, but tomorrow makes me nervous. Try to avoid 7:30 a.m. classes, if possible. I also have for classes, instead of three. AND auditions are tomorrow. We try out for the year’s dances. Wish me luck. I need it.
