We start a whole month beyond many colleges.  What to do, what to do...

As my memory rests
But never forgets what I lost
Wake me up when September ends

-Green Day's "Wake Me Up When September Ends"

Fear not fellow Buckeyes!  I remember all to well that restless feeling of wanting- no, needing- to go to college.  All of your other friends have left for their semester schools.  Meanwhile, OSU students must patiently await September 20th to roll around so we can move in and begin the AWESOME that is college.

There are many ways to get cabin fever and drive yourself insane.  That would be bad.

Trust me.  I've been there.

So instead, let us ponder what other things this extra time could allow...

  • Get a jumpstart on textbooks!  Did you know that by navigating to your class schedule via buckeyelink.osu.edu's Student Center, you can click on a magical button that will show you all your textbooks?  While I don't believe the bookstore is the cheapest option (sorry OSU, but I'm a believer in eBay), at least this gives you an idea of what you're looking for.
  • Earn some extra cash!  Now that those other pesky college students are away, you can probably snag some more hours at your summer job.
  • Read a book!  OSU actually sponsors a book club book for all incoming freshmen, which you can learn more about on the Buckeye Book Community webpage.
  • Speaking of webpages...  Have you explored osu.edu?  What about fye.osu.edu, a website dedicated solely to incoming freshmen?  I already talked about buckeyelink.osu.edu, which has all your personal information like classes, finances, etc.  I enjoy library.osu.edu for libraries, diningservices.osu.edu to learn about meal plans and hours of operation, and housing.osu.edu to check out floorplans and room rates!
  • Connect with your new Buckeye family!  The magic of facebook is a wonderful thing to behold.  Think about it: everyone's looking for new OSU friends at this time, so don't be shy!  Make some new friends.  :-)

I know I personally loved Leadership Collaborative, which was a program I found on the aforementioned fye.osu.edu.  While you cannot sign up for it now, I hope you guys took advantage of programs like those that let you meet other future Buckeyes.  Some of those kids are still my very closest OSU friends.

Hang in there; Move-In Day will be here before you know it!

Take care,
Rob
